Is this a Chiari Malformation and if not than what is it?

by tcampo, Oct 12, 2008 07:06AM
Hi, I recently had an MRI due to the fact that I have been experiencing a lot of nerve pain in my legs, back etc. as well as migraines and hearing loss in both ears and back and neck pain that is so bad MOST DAYS that I dont know what to do, and I was at my wits end.  They were trying to rule out MS and what they found my neurologist said it looks like chiari malformation only in reverse and he has never seen it that way so he needed to do some research of his own to figure out what it is, in the mean time I am still being sent for a battery of tests. What  the impression was of the radiologist was Mild ventral cervicomedullary compression in conjunction with degenerative changes of the atlantodental joint.  The report reads as follows: There is a Mild protrusion of the cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum. There is mild hpertrophy of the atlantodental joint with mild compression of the ventral cervicomedullary junction. Now have you or anyone you know that is familiar with Chiari Malformation heard of it being like this and if not, what can cause protrusion of the cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum? As well as hypertrophy of the atlantodental joint with mild compression of the ventral cervicomedullary junction? If you have any answers, or know someone who would be able to help me I would be tremendously grateful.  The more answrs I have the better. I cant find any of this in my own medical books and am running into dead ends online so not sure where else to turn. Again Thanks and have a great Day!
Sincerely,
Taira
