L5/S1 huge herniation...

Hello. I am a 30year old woman who until June 2010 had a healthy active lifestyle. I was rearended while sitting at a stop light and have a huge herniation at L5/S1 with major sciatica down my right leg and in my foot/heel. I think the nerve problem is worse than my pain level. (I had just entered my 2nd trimester when I got hit, so I could not have any treatments until my child was born in November) I have now had 3 weeks of PT and 3 epidural injections. My back does not really hurt very badly; however, I can not sit up or stand for much more than 20 minutes without my leg and foot burning and stinging and hurting so badly that I want to scream. I have been out of work for 4 months now because I cannot sit up long enough and I can't take pain meds or muscle relaxers and still function. I just had my 3rd epidural last Wednesday and now have pain when I sit, lay on my back, or lean back. I am assuming when I see the doctor tomorrow she will refer me for a surgical consult. Does anyone have any advice or thoughts on this situation? I have been doing a lot of research and I believe that a microdiscectomy is what they are going to recommend. I am SO nervous to have back surgery at 30 and also nervous about getting back to work and caring for my 3month old.
