Left Side pain from hip down to toes

Several years ago, I began having pain in my foot. Over the years the pain has radiated to my ankle, knee, hip and now lower back.  For some time, the pain felt concentrated in my ankle bone and knee bone. The ankle and knee bone crack on movement. Nurofen and panadol do not ease the pain. My hip, knee and ankle has, at times felt like they will give way on me. It feels uncomfortable to walk up stairs.  The pain is constant, just more severe at times. I have recently had a blood test (nothing really significant - white cells slightly elevated) and an xray (ankle and knee only), that showed no osteo-arthritis, bone atriphy or bone cancer.  My doctor now thinks it "may" be iliotiobial dysfunction (but I am not a runner?!) and feels physio may help. A friend suggested it may have something to do with my 'bow' legs (not severe 'bowing'). Any suggestions?
