Leg discomfort

I posted before about the tingling and aches in my legs. My new question is how should I wait for this to go on befoer I fight with the Doctor again. I tried to tell him last time, but he didn't believe and told me I'm suffering from anxiety and gave two prescriptions. So here I am (not taking the pills of course) with these funny feeling legs. Someone mentioned a slipped disk. I have no back pain though. Will this pass or what? What should I do, because I don't want permanent nerve damage. Are we talking weeks to wait it out? I did get an appt for PT for my neck issue which is finally subsiding after 5 wks.

No, Physical Therapist don't generally order MRI's, it’s usually done by your Primary Care Physician or by a specialist such as a Neurologist or Neurosurgeon. At any rate who every orders it, is probably going to want you to have x-rays done first, MRI's are very expensive, if they see something on the x-ray that concerns them, then they will order an MRI. What they do depends a lot on your symptoms, the severity of your pain and how long you’ve had it. X-rays can be helpful in diagnosing spinal problems, such as fractures, bone spurs and loss of disc height, just to name a few.

I would still ask to be evaluated for your leg pain, by a Physical Therapist, a good one can probably tell you what’s wrong, and more than likely, be able to help you.

I recommend a second opinion as it sounds to me like a disc bulge is the likely culprit, have an mri as in my case ct scan does not show much!

Thank you Kalvin.
I'm so upset about the doc telling me it's all in my head. I do get anxious, but this is real. It will be hard for me to see another doc without my chart following me (HMO network). The one before him was dealing with neck issues and I told him also. His reaction was pretty much the same. Can PT order a MRI of lower back? I hope so, so I can get on with my recovery. Thanks for your input. You are well appreciated.

You can have a slipped disk in your lumbar spine and not have back pain. I don't think you can get tingling and aches in your legs from anxiety. You might want to consider looking for another doctor. When you go to PT tell the Therapist about the leg pain and tingling that you're having and have them evaluate you. They can then set up a  treatment plan for you. Physical Therapist deal with the type of pain you're having all the time.
