Lower Back MRI Analysis (L5-S1)

VMD
Greetings.  I had an MRI done of Lumbar Spine with the results listed below.  The reason I too the MRI is that I was getting lower back pain after playing sports.  I play Squash/Racketball, Run and do Yoga and I am worried the diagnosis below will prevent my participation in these activities.

Any help/analysis/feedback would be appreciated.  Key questions i have include:  How do I prevent this from happening; What can this lead to (slip disc etc.); What sports can I play or not: etc.

MRI  of Lumbar Spine

Lumbar spine was studied on a 3T system in axial, coronal and sagittal planes with 5mm slices thickness. T1 and T2W1 images were obtained.

There is posterior prolapse of L5-S1 disc with rupture of annulus.   The posterior longitudinal ligament is pushed backward but is intact at L5- S1 level.   There are ill-defined paradiscal hyperintense lessions in the L5 and S1vertebrae both on T1 and T2W1 images.

The conus medullaris is of normal signal intensity.   The lumbar vertebrae reveal normal signal intensity.   There is no fracture, dislocation or bone destruction.   No abnormal pre or paravertebral soft tissue mass is identified.

T2W1 sagittal screening of entire spine reveals normal cervical and dorsal cord.

IMPRESSION
Degenerative posterior prolapse of L5-S1 disc with mild thecal compression.
Type 1 degenerative changes in paradiscal region at L5 and S1 vertebrae.
No other significant diagnostic pathology is identified.

Hi.....I am not sure if a dr answers posts on this forum, u may wanat to try and ask on the expert forum...click forums on the top tool bar...when the page opens the expert forums r on the right.
this forum is for venting and support, sometimes u'll find others with knowledge , but we r not medical pros....just other's like u...looking for answers or someone to undestand.

All I can get from ur report is u have some degeneration in ur lombar, with some bulging of disks.I do believe they might offer PT for the pain.....have u been to the dr since the MRI?

Good luck
