Lumbar Spinal Fusion

My husband has recently undergone a lumbar fusion he had one last December that did not heal so in September they went back in  and done another fusion. The first time was  through the back, this time they went through his stomach. He was in pain before but now he is in more pain than ever. He is having pain in his back and leg and foot due to the sympathetic nerve I think that is what they called it. This pain he says is a burning, tingling pain that seems to be miserable. I can barley touch his food or lower leg where that nerve runs and he will nearly jump out of his skin (so to speak) He will scream it hurts so bad. He can't even stand to have a shoe on it. Is this normal or is there something going on that needs attention from his doctor. He is so miserable and none of the meds they have him on right now are helping. He is on Lortab for pain and they did have him on Lyrica and Flexeril.  Now they have him on the Lortab, Soma, and Nueroton, (may have miss spelled it). So far that does not seem to help either. Have other patients had anything like this happen is this common or is this the first you have heard of this. What should he do. I can't stand to see him in this pain. Your help would greatly be appreciated.

How long age did he have surgery, and i havent had surgery yet bt the DR. told me there may be some pain down the leg scatic nerve just from the swelling but should go away it time, so its really amtter of how long he's been this way?
and i would call the DR. and get him checked just to be sure , and if its ok ask for somethng strongr to help him be able to relax, the pain meds arent working let them know..
