Lumbar Spine Puncture

I recently had a lumbar spine puncture, no headache afterwards, however, my back from where the puncture down to my pelvic, are in severe pain.  Is this normal, or what should I do?

I had a lumbar puncture five and a half weeks ago, to diagnose meningitis. Before I had the lumbar puncture, I had very bad lower back pain, stiff neck and severe headache. After the lumbar puncture was done, I felt complete relief - no back, neck or head pain - it was like a huge weight had been lifted and all the pressure was gone. I felt the best I'd felt in months!!!
However, the next day, the head and neck pain were back, but no pain in my lower back? I explained this to my doctor and he said it was very interesting as an increasing number of lumbar puncture patients have commented similar things, and he was making a note of all patients after effects to try and find out why the lumbar puncture provides such relief.

after effects may include headace and maybe pain in the lumbar area following.  You dont say how long ago you had the LP prior to your symptoms.  You should call your doctor and tell him exactly how you feel and what you are experiencing, nothing to fool around with. Its only a phone call.
