Lumbar Spine

Hello. my daughter has spastic C.P. and has corrected scoliosis. She has previously had a mechanical fusion of the thoracolumbar spine with two parallele posterior rods, secured by multiple wires.

She has been complaining of severe pain in her left buttocks with the pain going down her left leg. Most times leaving her leg numb all the way to her toes. She is currently on a pain patch as well as Percacets, anti-inflamatories and pills to coat her stomach. She sometimes cannot get out of bed for days at a time.

She had a xray taken on the 28th of August and this is the report of said xray,

LUMBAR SPINE: The patient has undergone a previous mechanical fusion of the thoracolumbar spine with two parallele posterior rods as secured by multiple wires.

The caudad aspect of the rods insert into the iliac crest bilaterally and there is well defined lucency related to both insertions indicating a degree of presumed movement. There has also been a fracture of one of the lower securing wires.

No intrinsic vertebral pathology identified.

IMPRESSION: NIL ACUTE

Could you please explain these results to me and let me know just how serious this is.

Yours truely

Kathy Dobbs
