Lumbar puncture

Lumbar puncture

I was in 2 car accidents (rear ended both times) within 5 months of eachother.  Since then it has been a myriad of tests, therapy and dr.'s appts.  Recently someone suggested that my prolonged issues could be due to MS.  My 7th MRI was done, and some more spots were found.  The neurologist wanted to do a Lumbar Puncture (that was today).  I went in, and as the Dr was getting ready, he made a comment to the effect that he wasn't sure he'd be able to get it, but he tried anyhow.  It was the most excruciating thing I have ever been through, it was like he didn't even numb me up.  During his attempt, I could feel shooting pains through my hips and down my legs. The Dr never completed the LP, he stopped when I passed out from the pain.  I woke up to hot flashes and sweats, followed by chills, and was sick to my stomach.  I left the clinic, very angry, due to the fact that they kept pushing for me to take tomorrow off so they could try again with floro guidance, but couldn't promise me that would even work.  Now it is 8 hrs later, and I'm in so much pain I can hardly move.  Every time I try and move I get shooting pains through my back and legs, and when I walk it feels like someone is shoving a hot poker in my hips.  Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

After my previous post, I ended up in the ER.  The ER Dr. did a CT on my back and it turns out the neurologist created a hematoma around my spine at the puncture site, and cause a lot of soft tissue damage.  I was worried that the pain I was feeling from the puncture was just referred from all of my pain from the accidents, turns out I was wrong.  It was all from the puncture.  Thanks to a wonderful ER Dr, the pain is under control, and I have a new neurologist.  The new neurologist is great, and I feel that I can trust her to take care of me in a way the other one couldn't/wouldn't.  Unfortunately I have to have another LP, but she is having it done under floroscopy so it will be less painful (since she can see what's happening, there is minimal chance of hitting bone). Along with the floroscopy she has prescribed me some heavy duty sedatives to keep me relaxed, and make things easier.
