Mid to Upper Back Pain After 6 hours of sleep

Good day, I have been having back pain for the last week or so... it started after I started an excersize program although I am not doing anything I have not done before... I am a 27 year old Male 6,2 and 200 Pounds i am a bit over weight but usually that only affected lower back pain while playing squash or other sports and as soon as I would lose a few pounds that lower back pain would go away.  Anyway since the last week after sleeping 6-7 hours I wake up with sharp pain in my back just below my shoulder blades sometimes it is only on side but once it comes no matter what position I lay in, on my side, on my back or on my stomach it is still there.  It goes as soon as I wake up I go to the gym at 630 and it doesnt affect my weight work outs but i am jsut concerned.  I would go to a chiropractor for it but I work in Nigeria and am not returning stateside for another few months and there are not any chiropractors here. If you have any advice or tips I would reall appreciate. Thanks

Hi Good day to you as well. Sorry you are having back pain. It sounds like you could have either pinched a nerve or injured something. I actually am having a similar problem but I wake up with extreme stiffness in my upper back at 4:30 am and then after I get up and move around it goes away. I do feel a slight pinch back there. I was sitting and had my leg up on a chair and I bent to look at my lower leg (have a lower back injury and was looking at my leg to see if it was infected). The next night I started waking up with this stiffness. I have had it for a month now. I am going to a GP this next week and will see what he says. If he has me get an Xray too I'll let you know. Otherwise, I would not lift weights for a while see if that takes the pain down. Also, maybe stop that exercise program and do a lot of walking or something until you can find out what is going on. Personally, most things in the spine you can't benefit from surgery anyway. But usually the rule is to rest from exercises until the pain goes away and just do you normal activities (no heavy lifting). I wish the best for both of us. You don't sound overweight much. My husband is 6'2 and 200 also and is only slightly over. But if the weight loss helps your lower back then keep trying. Maybe I should do the same. Sorry I'm not that much help.
bye,
