Neck Fusion c1-c2 for 91year old??

My father fell on July 4th and fractured his C1 and C2 vertebrae.   He has been in an Aspen collar since that day and visits the neurosurgeon again tomorrow.  We had a 3rd CT done Monday and have been told by dad's primary care physician that it does not appear to be healing and that it may need to be fused.  Dad is 91, has two coronary stents, but is sharper than me at 63!!  He is ready to be out of the collar.  We'll know tomorrow and will get a second opinion (not too impressed with his doctor - assigned to him at the hospital after the fall).  Anyone have experience with fusion surgery and especially on older patients.   By the way, he is anxious to getting back to playing golf - so you can see this is not a sedentary person.

I have experience with fusions, but not that high up. What is a reasonable period for the healing to take place? Multiple opinions are always best. Hopefully someone else will see your post and be of more help.

Your Father sounds like an incredible guy, I wish him the best.
