Neck Instability
I've recently been told by my orthopedic surgeon that I have instability of the vertebrae in my neck in the area of C-4 and C-5.   The orthopedist says that because of this instability, a relatively minor injury could sever my spinal cord and leave me paralyzed.   Is this surgery as necessary as he says and what kind of recovery can I expect from it?   I am in a lot of pain in my neck and right shoulder from arthritis, but have no walking problems or any other problems that would indicate spinal cord injury at this time.
