Neck and Back pain

Confused over MRI report....was wandering maybe could help explain. Findings were there is rudimentary disc in the upper sacrum that will be  labeled S1-2 for this examination. S1, there is also mild central canal stenosis with small right paramedian disc protrusion abutting the exiting nerve root. This does not displaace  or entrap the exiting nerve  root. There is associated degenerative facet arthropathy. The conus medullaris is not enlarged. There is no pathologic marriw signal intensity arising from the vertebral bodies that would suggest bony metastatic disease or healing trauma at this time.     IMPRESSION:  1. DESSICCATION OF ALL INTERVERT FROM L3 THROUGH S1  2. MINIMAL ANNULAR DISC BULGING AT L5-S1 WITH SMALL RIGHT PARAMEDIAN DISC PROTRUSION ABUTTING THE EXITING NERVE ROOT BUT NOT DISPLACING OR ENTRAPPING IT.  3.  THERE IS MILD TO MODERATE CENTRAL CANAL STENOSIS AT L4-5 AND MILD CENTRAL CANAL NARROWING AT L5-S1 BUT NO SEVERE CANAL STENOSIS, NEURAL EXIT FORAMINAL STENOSIS OR BONY LATERAL RECESS STENOSIS.  4.  THE CONUS MEDULLARIS IS NOT ENLARGED. THERE IS NO PAATHOLOGIC MARROW SIGNAL INTENSITY ARISING FROM THE VERTEBRAL  BODIES THAT WOULD SUGGEST  BONY METASTATIC DISEASE OR HEALING TRAUMA. THERE IS A FOCAL  AREA OR T2 HYPERINTENSITY IN THE BODY OF L2 SUGGESTIVE OR SMALL HEMANGIOMA.     CAN YOU HELP ME TO UNDERSTAND WHAT ALL THIS MEANS.....THIS WAS IN "2008" STILL HAVING ISSUES.....THANKS, ARLENE

Hi there!

The report describes an extra intervertebral disc present in the substance of the lower spine bone (sacrum) causing mild narrowing of the spinal canal and abutting the exiting nerve roots with associated mild degenerative changes. Also described is desiccation other of intervertebtal discs at the lower spine and minimal bulge at L5/ S1 causing mild-moderate spinal canal narrowing; and a small benign haemangioma within the body of L2 vertebra.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
