Neck pain with chlorine feeling in nose

A few years ago I had whiplash from a car accident and was treated by physical therapy. A month ago, I pulled something weird at the gym in my neck. The next day I woke up and could not move my neck and it felt very similar to the whiplash feeling I had years ago but this time it is worse. My neck feels so sore and I keep feeling like I want to stretch it out but no position helps. There is a tightness in my entire neck and it's going down to my right shoulder. I went to the doctor and he prescribed me physical therapy again. The worst symptom I'm experiencing is a chlorine like feeling (like when you dive into a pool) inside my nose/sinus. Does anyone have any advice on how to cure this?
