Need advice for Severe pain in Si Joint/pelvic areasevere pelvic pain can't lay or sit w/0 Pain

I have been having SEVERE pain in pelvic area above tailbone. Not broken tailbone, spine dr said it was my SI Joint and needed surgery. Had SI injection and it helped and was told that it confirmed Mu problem was my Si joint. Pain came back after month. I wake up while sleeping cause of the pain, it hurts worse when I'm laying down, so I have to sit up for relief. Had another SI injection - no relief at all. Pain has been happening for almost 2 yrs no dr can tell me what's wrong or how to treat. Spine dr is only one who has been able to tell me anything, although I'm not going to have any surgery until I'm sure that's the problem.  I have Hermes discs in my back and recently fracture L2& L3 vertibrates in car wreck 6 month ago and reinsured them again a month ago in another wreck. I've had 2 neck surgeries to correct herbed discs in 2007 & 2008. Oh course reinjured neck in wreck also. However, the pain from my pelvic/SI Joint/ or whatever it really is, my pain level is a high 9 on a scale of 1-10.
Does anyone have any advice or experiences they could share with me? I don't who what type of dr I should be seeing. Seen a spine specialist, my neurosurgeon , pain management dr, primary care etc. They all seem to act like the pain couldn't be that bad etc like its no big deal, but if it was them, it would be very important. I'm on serious pain meds but they don't kill the pain at night when it's the worst while I'm laying down.
Thanks foe listening!

You are welcome. I think the only really helpful back surgery is for a slipped disk and nerve damaged due to degenerative disk (but that is temporary relief). The rest is not worth it according to people I talk to and what I have read. Tuckamore had the same experience in that her SI joint injection was positive (she got relief) from one of the injections but not the other. She really gets relief from her DO doing adjustments on her. It lasts for a few months then comes back. But, that is something. I would probably get a second opinion from another orthopedic surgeon first. Did they do a physical on you that also showed you have SI joint problem? I hope you get relief soon.

Thanks for all your advice! I will copy my post on pain forum and also ask tucker more  for advice etc.  I had a physical exam from spine dr and I also had films of a recent MRI of my back and tailbone area for him to view when he said I need Si fusion, and I totally agree with you about the surgery - I will not have it cause I don't know if that's the actual problem.  He said and I also researched test that can determine if suffering from Si joint - basically you have injection in your Si joint and if you receiver 75% or greater pain relief within 3 days then it's your Si joint. However l got instant relief from first injection them months later no relief from injection and dr didn't mention it again, I saw he again because same issue and then I also had been in wreck and he wanted to do both cervical & lumbar surgery which I said no.
Thanks again.

I'm so sorry about all the pain you are in. I generally don't believe in SI joint dysfunction, unless you are pregnant or were in a car accident. This is because it takes a lot of force for it to go out. I didn't have that kind of force so that is why I don't think I have it. Since the car accident fits then it is possible you have you SI joint out of place. From what I have read I wouldn't do the SI joint fusion surgery, though some get relief more have problems from the fusion. I was told I have SI joint dysfunction but I got more injured from the physical therapists trying to put it back in then I had to start with then I had pain like a 9 when the PT tried to put in the SI joint on the wrong side! So, I would recommend that you copy and paste your post to the pain site if you haven't yet because Tuckamore has had a similar problem with her SI joint. I think you should talk to her specifically. But, I think she has a DO (doctor of osteopathy) put in her SI then she takes valium for pain . Of course it is different for everyone and the non pain drugs you are on may not allow you to take it. They also have an SI joint belt that you can wear that you can buy from OPTP (on line).Just google OPTP.  It is not a back brace it is specifically for the SI joint. But you have to put it on After, you have been adjusted NOT before. I have had a bunch of doctors tell me I have myofascial pain instead of SI  joint so I think the PT 's were wrong. I feel better and get out of pain when I lay down. Tuckamore has the same symptoms you have. I defininely believe your pain level I have been there. I couldn't think or even lift my left foot for about two months and still can't bend or put my shoes on etc. or cross my left leg over the right etc. Did the orthopedic surgeon do a physical exam to determine your SI joint problem or did you get an MRI done? I think  you should talk to Tuckamore on the pain forum. But I hope I helped a little.
take care,
