Pain up and down my spine

Hi Everyone,
I have pain up and down my spine when i sleep and sit down.  I had a relative check my back and a small patch of skin has a flat discoloration to the left of my lower back, which is also painful.  I visited the my doctor, who ordered blood tests, a L-spine X-ray, and urinalysis.   When the doctor examined me she said that she felt a pulled muscle at the site of the discoloration, but had no explanation for the discoloration or the pain along my spine.  

Does anyone have any insight to this?
