Recovering from lower back strain but?

Recovering from lower back strain but?

This has been bothering for sometime now. I had this back pain from which I have almost recovered now. It started about three weeks back. I had it checked with my physician last week. After I told him about my symptoms and what landed in me in that position (I am an graduate engineer - had a training which I had to stay away from home. I stayed with my friend. Since he just moved in, I had to adjust myself with a futon and it really took a heavy toll on my back as I am not used lying down on floor or in an irregular surface. Also the luggage was too heavy somehow I had to carry that along wherever I went. The training was strenuous and involved a lot of travel and by the time i got back home my muscles were really uneasy and it was all messed) he told me that it was due to the strenuous activities that laid a lot of stress on  my muscles which lead to the bad sprain. My pain has almost receded by the time I consulted with my physician and I only had this uneasy feeling, like some kind of a stiffness or something tht looked like a small swelling whenever i sat in an awkward position in a cushion or something, in around the tail end that is around my lower back. There is no swelling or anything sick when I sit in a normal chair. He said its normal and takes time for the area to recover. He also asked me If I was ok bending down and if it pained. It didn't. There was no pain.  So he prescribed me a few vitamin tablets to relax my muscles and I have been taking those since the last week. Also asked me to take rest and don't strain the area much because healing is a gradual process. I am ok now. Except for the small swelling that comes in when I sit in a cushion or a soft couch. Thats the only thing thats worrying me now.

How long does it take to recover from a lower back pain/ muscle strain? I am just worried.

I was gonna say you may have a disc problem from all the lifting and bending and carrying around. But that would not show a visible 'swelling' in your lower back. You should have it X-rayed to see what's going on with it.
