I am scheduled to have a laminectomy at L4-5 in the near future. My issue is I am deathly afraid of scar tissue buildup at site of incision plus possible formation of neuromas (have several in ankle due to past surgeries). These neuromas are so painful, you have no idea. Pain management doctor cannot get under control.
I am concerned about scar tissue buildup at incision site and possible formation of neuromas?
ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED! Thanks
Though scar formation is a possibility, neuroma do not occur secondary to trauma/ surgery. With any surgery the risks are always well evaluated against the risks. Scar tissue formation may be considered a minor risk factor as compared to the original issues. I would suggest discussing the situation and the management plan in detail with your treating doctor.
Hope this is helpful.
