I am 31 years old and I have had lower back pain now since I was in my early 20's. I am over weight at 5'9 and 244 pounds. I know that doesn't help much with the pain I have. I am on a diet and I am trying to be physically active.
I have iced the area, taken muscle relaxers, taken anti inflamations like IB profrin and all it does in make the pain seem to go away for a couple of hours. It is so bad that I have started to become depressed because of the pain.
My doctor showed me the movements I need to do to try and stretch the muscles in my legs, back, and glutes but still the pain returns after movement. Is there anything that I can do and how can I get some sort of medical help for my sciatic pain?
Where exactly is the pain. Is it only on your hips and down the front of your thigh or does it go down the back of your thigh and into your lower leg? The latter can be caused by piriformis muscle tightness. Anterior thigh pain can be caused by a tight psoas muscle because the nerves actually pass through the body of the muscle, thus when it is tight (when you are standing) it will hurt.
Do you have thigh pain when you are laying flat on your back with your legs straight? If so, does bending your legs at the waist correct the pain? A PT may help you if your pain is from muscle tightness. They can help you stretch them correctly (which is hard to do by yourself)
Also try the piriformis stretch and Massage Therapy
I hope that this helps...
