Scoliosis - chiropractor?

Scoliosis - chiropractor?

I saw a question posted below where someone suggested that the poster see a chiropractor for scoliosis. Has anyone ever had success with this?

I have scoliosis, constant back pain, but have been told it's not serious enough for medication or a back brace. The physician suggested I try yoga, which I was already active in.. So I'm kind of at a loss..

My mother and brother both have back issues as well. My brother has seen a chiropractor a few times but said although his back was pain-free for a day, it didn't last long and it wasn't worth the cost of the visits. My mother ended up in the emergency room after her one visit to a chiro because she was unable to move (although she has very different back problems than my brother and myself, in the form of herniated discs). So, I do admit I'm a little hesitant to go that route..

So I'm just curious to hear personal experiences from those who suffer from scoliosis and have seen a chiro. I understand scoliosis isn't exactly "curable" - but I really want to find a way to manage the pain.

Hi there, I would be very careful if you see a chiropractor, only see one if they have machines to see what's going on, xray or MRI .. At least that's what I've been told.. Also if scoliosis is something your mom could have too, might be degeneration... Just a thought!  I've read that scoliosis, with it's uneven vertabrea, causes the discs to wear because they just aren't lined up the way they should be!   Just be very careful, go to someone your doctor reccomends!!!  Sorry I am new here!! Take care and I hope you find some relief soon!!! I'm looking for some too, have slight curviture and bulging disc!!! No fun!!!

Chiro's are experts in the muscular skeletal system and as such, have treated many patients with ur condition. I would suggest doing ur research and find one that practices The Pettibon System. Its a full spinal rejuvenation program, one of which I was in extensively for 15 months. Was seeing results and am glad I gave it a chance!! Sorry ur going through a difficult time. *hugs*

It might of been my post that you were referring to about mentioning a chiro for scoliosis.  And I agree with the other posters - if you decide to go the chiro way - DO YOUR RESEARCH.  Not all chiro's are created equal.  I waited for a very long time before I got brave enough to see one.  But I did my research on the one I chose.  One of the ways I found was by going thru ratemds.com

My chiro mentioned that he can help with all sorts of problems including scoliosis and arthritis.  He did multiple xrays and he went over my xrays very carefully, asked me multiple questions - very detailed questions.

I am now going on visit 4 and I have already noticed a huge difference in my lower back pain and my upper scoliosis is still a work in session.  I do however notice a slight improvement.  I will be honest though, after my very first visit with him I hurt pretty bad for about a day.  I went to bed that night and woke up feeling a ton better.  The job of the chiro is to try an align your spine as much as possible to get the pressure off the spinal cord and discs...it is up to the patient to follow thru with the treatment by using ice after each visit and taking it easy so the spine doesn't slip back into the old spot.  After time the new position of the spine will hopefully hold and future adjustments may be needed.

But yes, if you choose a chiro make sure this person is very reputable and not just some quack willing to crack your back for a buck.

And if u go the chiro route and get a good one, you'll have to do ur homework at home such as physical therapy daily that ur chiro will have u do. I had to do my exercises 3x's a day.

I see my chiropractor for multiple problems, including scoliosis and sciatica.  It really helps a lot.  Yes, she took x-rays, as necessary, as I saw her the first time after I had a vehicle accident.
