Severe lower Back Pain :(

by Rixskg, Oct 29, 2007 01:42AM
Hello, i have some questions About my back pain.

I have been having back Pain and Neck pain for many years and it continues to get worse.
I am having numbness on and off in my Right Arm and Right leg, Sometimes my left leg, and Buttox.
I have constant lower back pain. Exercises do not seem to help any and will sometimes make the pain worse
for days. I have trouble standing for longer than 30 mins at a time, Also standing combined with walking, like
walking around in a Store for 30 mins or more i am in bad pain in my lower back and legs.Sometimes when i bend over i have stabbing sharp pains..  I was in a motorcycle accident
when i was around 14 years old and ever since then i have had back problems.. I recently went to see my family doctor
who ordered a MRI. Here is what the MRI says,

Degenerative Disc Diseases is Present At L3-L4 , The Patient Has a Schmorls node with herniation of the nucleus pulposus Seen into the superior endplate of L4. Incidental Degenerative disc disease is also Evident at T11-T12 level.
NO Neural Foraminal Or Spinal stenosis is seen within the Spine. The Patient Does have a Mild Anular Disc bulge at T11-T12 without evidence of Spinal or neural foraminal stenosis.  The facet joints appear intact with incidental Arthritic changes noted at L5-S1 Bilaterally.

Does anyone know what all this means? The Doctor didn't act like i should be concerned. He recommended Physical therapy for the pain.. The only thing he really said was that i am to young for all this.. I am 25 ..  Any help would be appreciated on what i should do, Should i try physical thereapy?  My friend goes and it doesnt help her, but i guess everyone is different, any help would be much apprecited. I am just tired of being in Pain..

thanks everyone :)

yes everyone is different and the longer you wait the worse it may get.
i have dealt with back problems my entire life and now at the age of forty after pyshc. thereapy and all types of epidiural injection ive been offered surgery and believe it or not im very hesitant to get it done..
so please try what they ask of you first, and have an open mind, the lord doesnt put more on us than we can handle, even though at time it feels like hes leaving everyone else alone except you. he's not and theres always some one worse off than us ,,, just look around you'll see..
god bless....

Back surgery can be risky and not necessarily make you pain free. In most cases herniated disks do not cause back pain.

Trying to understand MRI results is difficult. I would recommend that you see a back/spinal surgeon and get his/her opinion. And please bring the MRI films, not the radiologits interpretations. Those surgeons are better suited to interpret the films themselves. And then you ask the tough questions, as what do these show, what options, will surgery help?

Good luck
