Sharp Pain Behind Left Ear

I started having a sharp pain behind my left ear yesterday.  I'd say the pain lasts no more than 1-2 seconds but it is occurring every few minutes.  I have taken 3 Advil and a half a Vicadin within the last 24 hours with no relief.  I have a lot of tension in my neck, shoulders and back between the shoulder blades.  I never have headaches.  This pain seems to pulse down the left side of my neck.  Anyone had a diagnosis for anything similar?

Hi there. I know exactly what you are talking about! I have suffered from this for years, but it comes and goes. It feels like a lightning bolt sort of pain and doesnt last very long at all, which makes it very hard to treat with painkillers, because by the time you have taken anything, it stops. I have always suffered from tension headaches but these headaches are called ice-pick headaches. You should google them. They are nothing to worry about. I get them about twice a year and each time lasts around a week or two... but as scary as they seem, they will go!! Stress triggers them for me. Obviously I'm not a doctor so I would still see them, but I have a friend of mine who suffers too.  Hope this helps. Zoe
