Is it close to your ear? If the muscle was pulled it would cause tension and some left over fluids if the area was swollen and that would explain how you can hear/feel it so easily. This is just my best guess. Maybe take some Ibuprofen and see if that gets rid of it and again if it gets worse or comes back go get checked. Hopefully everything is fine and it will cause no more problems. Best wishes.

again thank you, one last thing when i rub that area of my neck i can hear/feel a sort grinding sound/sensation, just curious as to what that could be. I was told it could just be tension but i'm not sure?

May have just been a pulled muscle or pinched nerve. Glad it is better but if it comes back or gets worse please go get it checked. There are so many things that can go wrong on top of being painful and just flat out annoying it is better to get checked than to leave alone. It does not sound like you had anything serious though. Best of luck to you.

Thank you, definitely a dull sort of pain, it feels better this morning. Maybe my constant touching of it didn't help.

Go see the doctor. It could be just about anything. That is not a usual place for pain. Your neck could be out of place or you could have disk or vertebrae problems. Also you may want to post what type of pain it is ie. burning, sharp, dull, throbbing as well as anything that makes it worse will help people on here narrow down what it could be. Best of luck to you.
