T11-T12 Pain after six months

I will give as many details as I can, I'm 16 and this is about my brother who is 12.

He acquired unexplained back pain when he woke up one day, and it has not receded or strengthened in that time except for the occasional treatments he gets.

He is on constant painkillers but it seems they do little to nothing to ease pain, injections into the pain area (I'm sorry that this information is so general) which make the pain incredibly worse and the joints stiffer. This is supposed to happen, apparently, but there was no improvement afterwards.

MRI shows nothing, X-Ray and CT-scans are also negative. Suggested diognosis have been muscle spasms, rheumatoid arthritis, muscular tearing...

It's been going like this for six months, it is hard to walk for him. Could you shed some light on this?

I would also ask others who have had this unexplainable back pain to please comment, it is very distressing for us as a family and it would be helpful to know about any other cases of this.

Thank you.

I'm just throwing this out, he's young and its more than likely not the reason but has he been checked for fibromyalgia?

Your family may have already done this but, I would suggest getting a referral to another neurosurgeon... keep looking as there are so many cases of missed fractures.

Also carefully quiz him as to possible cause that he may have missed... any chance of a fall, skateboard, even wrestling with friends.

Thanks Panda, I'm sorry that it's taken me so long to reply but I didn't check. Is your pain coming from the T11-T12 area as well?

I will recommend this to my brother. And thank you

i have had unexplained back pain for 18 months,i understand how distressing it is,im an adult and i find it difficult, your brother must feel fustrated and depressed,he is very lucky to have such a suportive family,i have recently been to the pain clinic at my local hospital, they dont try to cure the pain but help you manage it,i now take oxycontin 10mg slow release twice a day and have oxynorm 5ml/5mg for acute atacks, this week theyve given me a T.E.N.S.machine which really works for me,maybe your brother could try one, there non invasive and can do no harm,
