Thoracic back pain really sucks!

by bryhigh, Nov 01, 2007 07:45AM
I am a 30 y/o male 6'3 245lbs I have 6 herniations in my thoracic spine all mild to moderate, the worst appears at T 7-8, also I have a herniation at C 5-6 and C 6-7. The C 6-7 herniation is the worst. it is pinching the nerves on both sides.and a L 4-5 bisc buldge  I have had MRI's done at all levels of my spine. A bone scan, numerous epidural injections, trigger point injections and facet blocks. i had an emg test done on my neck and r/ shoulder and it showed nerve damage. My primary pain is in my mid back in the rib area of the spine also pain in between my shoulder blades an neck. my pain seems to be more right sided then left. i had cat scan of my abdomen and pelvis to check kidney functions and nothing is showing wrong i could really use advice if anyone has any, i have been taking roxycodone 15mg and cymbalta 60mg and it helps a little but i really want this to all go away.

I was diagnosed with a disc herniation at T 9-10 about 15 years ago. The pain would radiate in a circle around my mid-upper back- because that's the direction of the nerve affected. Eventually it got better on its own although I have some flare ups occasionally.

In trying to determine the best course of action I saw a spinal/back surgeon in NYc, Dr. Paul Brisson. He avoids surgery if possible and only if he thinks it will help the patient. In my case I brought my MRI films and he had additional ones done (time frame). He told me thoracic disc surgery is more complicated than lumbar or cervical and my MRI did not warrant.

In many cases disc problems do not cause pain. Other factors may.
My advice, is to see a reputable spianl surgeon to evaluate your films.
And try reading a book by Dr. John Sarno on back pain- helped me immensely.

Good Luck
