Treatment for cervical herniated disks - is traction supposed to cause burning?

For approximately 3 weeks, I have been receiving traction for two herniated disks (5-6, 6-7) which are placing pressuring on my nerves (a condition I've had since July 2009).  Last week, after traction, my shoulders began to burn severely.  Since then, the burning has not let up.  Additionally, my shoulders (approx. 2 inches from the top of my shoulders) feel pinched.  What can be the cause of this?  My physical therapist said that this was primarily due to the neck muscles being stretched.  This answer is fine, except I feel the burning down both my arms.  Please advice me on how to proceed.  At this point I am considering surgery only because I am in a lot of pain.

I had acdf surgery 2 1/2 yrs ago..traction did not work and was very painfull..I disagree with your pt..bone spurs and pinched nerves cause that kind of pain..not muscle strain-
just my opinion
