Well what do ya know. . .

Well what do ya know. . .

Well, after 5 years of complaining of right hip pain and a serious flare up of pain, my new pain management doc decided that I had bi-lateral hip bursitis (I laughed but ended up eating that laugh - lol) and ordered an MRI of the hips.  Now ya see - I've been complaining of pain in my right hip for 5 years and everyone told me it was referred pain from a herniated disc l3-4 due to the muscle weakness and damaged nerve (confirmed by testing).  It turns out that yes - I had bursitis in both hips AND (L) labral tear with cyst (asymptomatitic) AND a (R) tear in the right gluteous medius tendon attachment on the greater trochanter (hip bone) Imagine that! And yes I am full of sarcasism at this point. Since I've had soo many epidurals and cortisone shots that never, ever worked I declined the offer for shots but offered a solution that worked for me (Oral prednisone), with only one side effect ('roid rage') for a couple of days.  With PT and the oral steroids I was able to get rid of the bursitis (YEA!!!) but am left now with more pain than ever in the right hip. While in PT sessions I had two occurrances when I got home where my legs gave out and down I went.  The last time I was squatting down cleaning a bird cage and when I went to get up I made it about halfway and without warning or pain I went down so hard on my left rear hip that it throbbed for two days. Now I'm at the point where I can't walk without a cane - not even from the front of the van to the back to get my scooter out!!  Multiple set of x-rays and the mri show no arthritis in the hips so I declined my doc's offer to inject cortisone into the hip joint - I asked how will that help if the tear is on the outside of the hip??  So I got a referral to a Dr. Nazarian in Center City Philly because he works with ultrasound to get a better picture of the tear and does stuff to help promote healing of these types of tears - the tears that are not big enough for surgical intervention but still disabling. My appt is on Aug 2 so I'll post back after I see the specialist. Thanks for letting me seriously vent!!
