X-Ray shows extra vertebrae L6

I'm a 32 year old healthy male. About 10 months ago I first started having low back pain associated with other symptoms. I was also running a lot back then.

The first symptom was my bladder feeling like it was full, when it was not. It was coming from nerves. It was very painful. I was also dribbling a lot after urinating. This scared me. Dr. said I was going to be okay, and I was.

This healed in 2 weeks on its own.

Later came pain in my erections. This still comes and goes, but not bad.

My low back pain is pretty consistent 10 months later.

My Dr. did an X-ray finally and found out that I have an extra vertebrae. He thinks this could be causing a lot of my pain.

He does not recommend surgery, pills, chiro. Only deep massage and stretching etc.

Is there hope for relief? or am I doomed at such a young age? Thanks.

I don't understand how an extra lumbar vertebra would work, how it would interfere with the lumbar nerves that innervate the bladder or penis, and why you have pain.

Accepting "I have an extra lumbar vertebra, therefore I have pain and other symptoms" is an unsatisfactory explanation.

I would recommend that you see a spine specialist who can order an MRI or CT Scan film for greater detail, a diagnosis, and provide you with a better understanding of your problem.

You are only "doomed" for as long as you remain ignorant of your medical problem. The moment you begin to take responsibility for understanding this condition and finding a treatment, you begin to have hope.

Begin by studying normal lumbar anatomy and learning how it functions so that you will be prepared to assimilate new information about your extra vertebra.
