abdominal hematoma after spine surgery

by Milunga, Jul 03, 2009 08:44AM
My husband had spine surgery in June 2009. The surgery was done with back and front incisions.  He had no problems from the surgery itself, but a few days after, while still in the hospital he complain from a big pain in his abdomen.  They found he had a large hematoma or I think it can also be call a sematoma.  They put a drain which seem to work for a while and then the hematoma got bigger and they did surgery on him to clean it up.  He has been with a drain for a week now and it does not seem to be coming to an end.  They did a scan and they said the liquid is increasing.  The surgeon wants to send him home with the drain.  My question is:  How long do this things take to finish draining and heal?  He is getting very depressed and I am concern for him.  They also said he has an infection and they want him to have infusion therapy at home for two months.  Any help will be appreciated.
