cervical collar

HI,
I am wearing a soft cervical collar since having neck fusion surgery last Wednessday, Oct 8.  When I am moving during the day I find that I sweat a great deal under the collar. It becomes very bothersome.  Is there any alternative to the soft collar I have.  How risky is it to go with out one?
Thanks,
Ann

I had two cervical fusions. I'm hoping I don't have to have a third! The first time they went through the front, the second, they went through the back of my neck which was extremely more painful! The first fusion failed because I had a parathyroid adenoma which leached alot of my calcium out of my bones so my body just absorbed the cadaver bone and then one of my screws broke. The second they went through the back and wired c-5 c-6 together after they put another cadaver bone and bone growth compound in. I hope it works. It hurts so bad! It feels like I have a hump in the back of my neck!

hi ann
i had to have posterior fusion twice on my c1 c2.  anterior fusion it is usually pretty stable.  apparently posterior fusion is less stable post op. i had posterior. i have been wearing a hard collar since May.  i think my first fusion failed because i had a wire holding my bone graft in and i weaned myself off the collar to fast.  this second time i had rods screws and wire holding the graft and still am told to wear a collar.  from my personal experience i would say wear it as long as surgeon recommends.
