You have a pinched nerve causing muscle and nerve problems. The disk that are bulging are pinching off the nerves and causing pain and muscle weakness. What they mean by  "you have a river flowing up and down through your spine and there is something causing it to not flow freely".is that your nerves send and receive messages to your brain and because of the pinched nerve the messages are slow to respond. Your nerves are not communicating correctly with your brain because of the this. Getting a mri or ct scan will show how much damage the disk are doing and also help the doctor to see exactly what is going on so that he can help you. Best of luck.

I was dxed with a pinched nerve in my neck.  I could not walk any distance or stand for more than a few minutes before my pain level was a ten.  I ran from one specialist to another.  I spent the last three and a half under a neuro.  I couldn't believe a pinched nerve could cause so much trouble but he assured me over and over it surely could.

When I lost strength of my dominate hand, I found another neuro.  I had to wait four months to see her.  By the following morning I was given an MRI and by noon I knew it was MS.

I might mention I am 61 years old and searched nine years for an answer.  It wasn't really a backache but rather my legs were too weak to hold me.

If you do get to a neuro be sure he runs a 3tMRI on your spine and not a 1.5t.  The 1.5t is not strong enough to show lesions on the spine.

I wish you the best...and it isn't so unusual for those in our 50's and 60's to be dx.
