I am on dilaudid.  The normal starting dose is 2-4mg every 6 hours I read.  I was on alot of percocet that wasn't working anymore because of new injurys and I am opiet tollerent and my tollerence builds quick.  I started at 8mg every 6 hours, and for the first time in what seemed forever, my pain went from 8-10 down to about a 1.  If you google "pain chart" or other things like that you will get an idea of how it is compared.  I see it is even stronger than what you have mentioned, and is 8x morphine.  It works well for me, but not some others. I don't seem to get any "high" from it, and it does take the pain down great. Sometimes it seems to wear off in about 3-4 hours though. Maybe with your fentynol which is long acting, the dilaudid would be a good breakthrough pain med.  Docs. will consider your respitory systom also.  I have noticed that I feel alot better on the dilaudid also because it has no acementiphen in it. I think all that tylenol stuff in the percs, etc... was killing my liver.

I didn't see anywhere that it IS morphine.  May be simular, but it works 8x morphine, not the same drug.  Where did you see that? How is the fentynol patches for you? I was going to ask to be on them when the percocets stopped working, but the doc put me on the dilaudid that works good for me and I read it is stronger anyway.

I am opiate tollerant and build up tollerence to anything quick.  All I know is i've been taking the Dilaudid 6 weeks now and it still works better than anything else I had been taking.  The funny thing is, it normally only takes about 3-weeks before I really felt any addiction part of the meds I was on. I didn't feel dependancy on the didlaudid untill about the  4-5 week.  Although I can tell They don't work as well as when I started, they still take away alot of the pain, and after being in so much pain for so long, this is still good enough for me.
I am thinking about asking my doc. for something else next week just to keep rotating the narcotics so I don't get totally immune to one.  You make the fentynol patch sound good, so I will ask for that.  I will also google the new med. you mention and see what I can find.  Hope your better.
