last summer I was in bed almost all the time. in December 2007, I had a spinal fusion L-4,L-5. I am WAY better now that last year at this time. its a rough surgery, but I had no life and I tried other things for a long time and it only got worse. my surgery is 6 months old TODAY. it was only the past month or so that I honestly can say my life is somewhat normal. I still get a little pain, but nothing like before. seriously, I had no life, now I do. I am about 60 lbs overweight, so don't beat yourself up for that, If your in pain, you can't move to much, that will cause weight gain. after your fixed, then worry about the weight, thats where I am now. good luck to you, write me anytime. make very sure you have a very good surgen.

I actually was in better shape before my spinal fusion. Unless you are having chronic pain do not go through with the fusion. My pain was sporadic before the fusion, now its daily. True I am better in the mornings but it's been a year and I am still in pain everyday while limiting my activities.

hello...what happens if you elect not to get the surgery? Are you having trouble moving and are in alot of pain? Sometime diet and exercise is the best and safest way to go. Although that can be very hard to stick with, especially when you feel lousy! good luck.
