fusion

I have been diagnosed with Spondylilosthesis.  I have a cyst between lumbar 4 and 5, and a vertebrae below has moved.  The space in my spinal column has closed up until it is so small that it is pinching the nerves and I have been told that surgery will entail removing the cyst, repositioning the vertebrae, opening the space, and fusing the spine in the affected area.  Friends  have told me that they have heard that fusing helps for a while but can cause later problems to the rest of the spine.  I am 83 years old.  Is fusing a good idea?

I've heard mixed results about fusions. It depends on your surgeon and how your body reacts to the surgery. Best wishes!
