Welcome to the Back and Neck Community.  Members are  here to provide assistance and support to individuals experiencing symptoms related to possible abnormal conditions of the cervical and/or lumbar spine.  The advice given is non-professional and is based primarily on personal experiences.  Please post on the Expert Forum if additional medical advice is required and one of the medical doctors will assist you as appropriate.

I am sorry to hear of your prolonged discomfort.  It must be difficult to be the primary caregiver when you are not in optimal health yourself.
You state that your MRIs (cervical and lumbar?) have shown "bulging" disc(s) and it is this bulging that is probably putting pressure on the spinal nerve roots and potentially the spinal cord that is producing your symptoms.
I do not know when your most recent MRI was done, but these herniations of disc material can become larger simply through the wear and tear of the spine as we age.
The fact that you are lifting at least 53# on a regular basis can be the contributing cause of progressive damage to your discs.  The more the nerves are compressed, the greater the symptoms of pain/numbness/weakness of the extremities, etc.
Use of a TENS unit should alter the level of pain, but it does not take away the root cause which is the disc degeneration itself.  Pain pills also alter the perception level of pain, but are not curative in themselves.
Are you under treatment by an orthopedic spine specialist?  If so, you do need to contact him and report the changes in your symptoms and the lack of pain relief you are getting with your current meds and the TENS.
If it has been a long time since your MRIs, it might be necessary to repeat the testing to determine if there has been interval changes which could result in your increased pain.
After discussing your symptoms with the doctor, he will explore the available treatment options and you can decide what you wish to do regarding this situation.
