i'm scared to death about my PAIN!!!

by DannyDanko420, Apr 07, 2007 12:00AM
I am 19yrs old and i hurt my back in 2002 and since then i've seen specialists after specialists, surgeon after surgeon and still i cant get an accurate diagnosis. they have told me i have many things for ex: DDD, herniated disk at L5-S1, three bulging disks L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1, spondylolisthesis, spondylolysis, mild facet arthrosis at L5-S1, L5 pars defect, i could go on but u see my point. i have severe pain in my lower back and in my legs. sometimes my legs hurt more then my back. yes i do have pain in both of my legs, also my hamstrings are very, very tight. now the docs are just giving me pain meds and sending me home. i cant work due to my pain, i can barely move around the house. i need some help here. i am afraid if i wait any longer on treatment i will end up paralized. if there is any one that has any advice plz feel free to post, im open to anything.

You really need to tell your doctor what YOU want. They don't like to have surgerys on young people cause it can cause alot of future problems...recurrent herniated disks...more pressure on other disks etc....They also don't want to do surgery unless the pain is interfering with life etc...like from pressing on nerves.
If you had that MRI report and the pain never went away with conservative treatment...they should have had surgery. Not to mention that it sounds like your MRI is old. Things change. I had my 2nd surgery Feb. 20 2007 and after 2 weeks post op was in wayyy more pain..just like I had another herniated disk......they kept saying there was no way cause I just had surgery. Well, the surgeon wasn't happy but he ordered a new MRI, which did show I had a NEW herniated disk pressing on nerves. So i saw my family doc. yesterday and he said get ready for surgery.  BUT...2 days after that last MRi and one day later than we just got the results (stat)...something terribly went wrong with the rest of my back..so I will have to have ANOTHER emergancy MRI before surgery. So what I am saying....if your doc has tried conservative treatment and you are still in disableing pain...insist on another MRI. I had the option of PT etc...last time and I said NO WAY. I been through it before as well as injections and it all made me worse. Just cut it out.
And be careful of what tests the doc. orders. My first injury showed nothing in normal x-rays, cat scans, mylograms etc....I would go straight to the MRI now.
