increasing neck pain

over the past 2 weeks, but especially past 24 hrs I've had increasing neck pain that I also feel on the outside of my right arm. I now have pain doing things like lifting light items like a quart of milk or opening the venetian blinds, turning my head to the right is painful. The pain is not like a typical stiff neck, but like I'm being sliced open with no anesthesia. I do have a herniated disc at c6 which I had a cervical epidural for almost a year ago. Could this be acting up again? I haven't done anything active to aggravate it so I'm at a loss for why it's so incredibly painful. I have an appt at my primary tomorrow afternoon but wondered if anyone had any insight in the interim. I've tried prescription strength naproxen (600 mg) and arthrotec(yuck-stomach pain!!) neither of which help at all. Also lidoderm patches, bed buddy,
ice, nothing helps. (not all of that at one time.)

Hi,

It sounds like you might have a pinched nerve if its not connected to your herniated disc.  That can cause severe pain, Go see your Doctor or if its really bad a visit to ER would be the best move. Sometimes some physiotherapy can release the pinched nerve. Good luck.

Best wishes

Angie

The dr visit went ok, she found the my left shoulder is higher than the other (that's all I see when I look in the mirror now!) but she felt it's only a strain and suspects alot of it is due to stress. We're trying similar: muscle relaxants, pain pills and patches and she gave me a referral to a pain mgmt for in the future. Fingers crossed! Hope you feel better too, the pain can really impact your life!

It does sound as though it may be acting up again.  I have a herniated disk, I fractured one a couple of years ago and had a fusion and now I  have to go in and get relief with epidurals.  I'm also on a muscle relaxer, tramadol and vicodin.  I'm glad you are seeing your doctor soon!  Let us know how it turns out!!

I considered er the last night, it was that bad! It felt like a scalpel with no anesthesia. Hopefully my primary will be helpful tomorrow. Thanks for the help!
