l5/s1 discotomy 2 times and still in huge pain

Ok i had a discotomy for l5/s1 herniation and 5 months later reherniated. 3 months after that they did another discotomy both surgeries were by an orthopedic. he said if the second one did not work we would look at putting a rod in. My questions....does the rod help alleviate pain??? will the pain ever go away? i was completely under the impression the surgery would alleviate the pain but it has not???? Suggestions????
