l5-s1 spondylolisthesis

l5-s1 spondylolisthesis

I am 17years old and recently had very bad pains in the lower back whereby it was agonizing to just sit, stand or walk, so i went to a specialist to have it checked and i did a mir scan of the lumber back. the conclusion was
' bilateral l5 spondylolysis with mild/subtle l5-s1 spondylolisthesis. This together with a degenaerate bulging disc is causing mild spinal canal stenosis. Both neural foramina are however preserved.'
The doctor told me that it would take abt 3-6wks to heal and that i would have to restrict my activites meaning no more agressive sports unless i do surgery. However, when i woke up the next day the pain completely disappeared. Could someone please clarify if my situation is as serious as it suppose to be, cause i am currently playing tennis competitively at school level and stopping now would be painful. Could it be a misdiagnosis or some other condition? cause it is quite scary that the pain could disappear just like that. Hope someone has the answers, thankyou!

A study done in the early 1990's and reported in the New England Journal Of Medicine evaluated persons over the age of 20 and their MRI results. Over 90% had some sort of disc abnormality and in 80% of the cases the person had no back pain.

If the pain has gone and your are active and doing well do not think about the MRI results.

In all probablitites 10 years from now if you redo an MRI it will show the same thing.

Good Luck to the next andy roddick
