long term effect of orthopaedic anurysmal bone-cyst surgery

I had a orthopaedic anurysmal bone-cyst removed 20 years ago.  Bone grafts were taken form my ankle and hip to replace the missing 3 vertabrae.  They were fused together and a wire was inserted to hold it all together.  I've done  research, this wire is no longer used and I am curious why? I have been in pain my entire life but it was after having my children that it became unbearable.  I am sore form head to toe.  I wake up feeling like my limbs are filled with lead.  I experience day long headaches and dizzy spells. The right side of my body is the strong side and has compensated for the weakness on the left side.  But both sides feel "old" stiff and sore, especially the right. every joint in my body hurts.  Everything I do is painful.  Sitting, standing, brushing my teeth and hair, lifting a half gallon of milk.  Vaccuming is nearly impossible.  I've been told I have low spinal fluid, arthritic changes where the bones were fused, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and chronic immune deficiency, migraine anxiety dizziness and a vestibular occular disorder. Are these "normal" long term effects from the surgery?  Are they going to get worse over time?  What do I do to teat these problems and enjoy my life once again?

Try posting on the expert forum, maybe he can suggest something.  Good luck, and that was a good description about feeling like lead, I know what you mean.

melissa, my son had a anurysmal bone cyst removed from his hip  in oct of 2007. He is 19 and fortunely doing very well. Forgive my grammar I just woke up and was filling out new patient paper work for my son and could not or did not want to remember how to spell anurysmal so I ended up at this site. my post is for you! I am 47 years old and have had pain most of my adult life until recent. I must ask a hard question - Do you take any meds such as antidpressant, benodiazopine - klonopin, xanax, valium, ambien?  I discovered my pain cause on my own. I was in a constant state withdrawl (withdrawal) from these meds. I know it sounds crazy, but the more I complained they said I had fibromyalgia and anxiety. I would prefer if you or anyone else needed some of my info to just email me. I am in a hurry but just felt I needed to share a little of my story because it was truly painful and destroying my life. ***@****  Email if you want to talk about it. Becky
