methadone VS.tramadol

i was in a car accident 8 years ago my lower back pain has gradually got worse i had xrays done it showed that i had separation in my upper back and my L5 & L4 has a peace of the bone chiped off and fused back the wrong way.i rencently had an M.R.I. done im still waiting to go back for my appointment to discuss the M.R.I. this is my problem right now tramadol is what the doctor used to treat my pain but i build a tolerance so fast it makes me take more & more so i don't have pain.(im a plumber)my aunt has given me methadone when my pain was real bad it seems to work better than tramadol i don't have to take as much and it lasts longer what do you think should i ask for methadone i don't want to get addicted to opiates

I TAKE METHADONE FOR BACK PAIN DUE TO A SPINAL FUSION FROM SCOLIOSIS.  I STARTED OUT ON TRAMADOL ALSO.  DIDN'T HELP MUCH AND YES THE LITTLE IT DOES HELP DOESN'T LAST LONG.  METHADONE CAN BE A GOOD DRUG FOR PAIN BUT VERY ADDICTING.  ANY NARCOTICS OR OPIATES ARE THOUGH.  THE ONLY ADVICE I HAVE IS TO GET A PAIN CONTROL DOCTOR (THESE ARE USUALLY THE ONLY DOCTORS THAT WILL PRESCRIBE IT ANYWAYS) AND MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS.  YOU DON'T WANT TO TAKE MORE AND THEN RUN OUT.  THEY MONITOR IT CAREFULLY AND THEY USUALLY DRUG TEST YOU TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IT IN YOUR SYSTEM.  BELIEVE ME YOU DON'T EVER WANT TO EXPERIENCE THE FEELING OF WITHDRAWL (withdrawal).  GOOD LUCK!!!

I was on methadone for less than a week, it did get rid of the pain but i could not handle the side effects. ( not able to breath right when laying down ) It took me about 3 to 4 weeks of feeling sick to get this stuff out of my system.  I am now useing Hydromorph which i have found does a good job with my pain.
