mother just had T4-S1 spinal fusion scholiosis surgery

Hello everyone. My mother just had her spine fused Feb 1st and is slowly recovering. It has been a very rough month for her she is in rehab now and coming along day by day. She just tried to get up to fast and strained her back the day before yesterday Friday. She said she is really hurting and it has delayed her doing her physical therapy. She said they took ex-rays since and everything looked ok. Though she has been in pain if she tries to do anything and having lot of spasms in her back. I told her about this sight and she said she would get on. I told her what I'm called on this sight and want to kinda get the ball rolling for her and see if anyone would like to jump on and relate or have any advise for her. I will then tell her to check out sight and that hopefully some people are there for her. Hope someone is there that can talk with my mother and relate. Hopefully she can kill time at rehab and learn aswell. I'm very happy for her she had a 70% plus curve straightened and fused. This is the first time in 25 years her shoulders have lined up with her hips. It's beautifull. She is no longer deformed. It's a miracle in my book. I thank god so much for this miracle. Now its all about healing right now. God bless everyone. Please help me find some direction and friends out there for my mom I love so much.

Hiya, i too suffer from scoliosis and also kyphosis. There is a forum called scoliosis support at www.scoliosis-support.org where fellow sufferers of scoliosis, kyphosis and flat back chat to one another, give each other support and answer each others questions. Some members have had surgery, some are awaiting surgery and others are using other treatment methods such as bracing if possible. Everybody there is fantastic and i've found it a great help. Give it a try, you wont be disappointed :) . Fusion surgery is a big step, one that i am currently trying to decide on and infact i have to see my surgeon next week to discuss it. Your mums surgery has been very recent and so her muscles will still be healing and it does take a lot of time, so she needs to be careful :) It may be too early for the physio and some tlc and rest may be needed more first, take things slowly.
You're a wonderful daughter and i wish your mum a very speedy and hopefully less painful recovery :) If you join the forum over at scoliosis support i am Astra_Sam on there too :)

God Bless,
Sam :)
