Hello:
Don't worry about it. I had my C4 C5 replaced last April and it was the easiest surgery I have had yet. My surgeon went through the front of the neck, used a donor disc, screwed the bracket into my spine and I was home in 24 hours. The only bad side effect was a terrible sore throat for a week. I was out for four weeks as well.
Make sure he cuts along a wrinkle line and your scar won't show after awhile.
Good luck.
Tough it out long as you can. I started with this condition in my early 30's but finally had to have disks fixed via surgery which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My Neuo surgeon went through my throat (font) which opens up to the disks. Took bone from my hip, and basically screwed and glued my neck. Now at the time I had no feeling in my left arm and immediately the next morning I saw an immediate difference. I took off a month from work having 3 disks repaired and went back to work. Getting over the surgery really takes about a year. Some trouble off and on but rubbing the shoulders works great. I was serious scared to death about going via my throat but it made sense when I checked how its done. I was only in pain right after the surgery but they drugged me good, gave me good drugs for home, went home next day. I couldn't lift or do much of anything and NO PC was the biggest !!! Just veg'd and watched ER and other shows. Being a work-a-holic most of my life, it was fun smelling the roses. I was amazed. The worse part of the survey, taking the bone from the HIP, I couldn't lay down in the bed for a month but a good LAZY BOY is man's best friend.
HOPE I'VE HELPED.
