pain in upper left back, left neck

Hi,

I have been having pain in my upper left back and left neck....I'm 25 male and have been working out almost for the past 2 yrs....i might have hurt myself during workout ?...about 10 months ago, I visited a doctor about pain that i was getting in the middle of my chest and I was told it was just an inflammation 'costochondritis' and i took some anti inflammatory drugs which seemed to have eased the pain. about 6 months ago, i guess i was lifiting heavy and started getting severe pain in my upper left back. I consulted a doctor and I was told again that it was just an inflammation and i took some drugs but it did not help much. I used to do good amount of cardio and when i tried doing cardio after having this back pain, i was feeling pain in left center of chest and worried that it might be problem with the heart. doc did a normal test like checking my heartbeat  and said my heart is fine though..? lately i don't have much pain in upper left back but i feel pain and uncomfort in my left neck and left side of chest muscle. during this pain period, I almost did not workout and I started doing lil workout lately. when i workout my arms, i feel so intense pain in my left neck and i can tell that my upper left is not same and strong as that of my right one. I get lil dizziness and pain in my chest when i do cardio and it makes me worry much...what could be the problem in my case ? im planning on seeing a doctor again and not sure about wat kind of doctor that i need to see for this kind of problem ? cardiologist ? Orthopaedic surgeon ? sport medicine dcotor ? Please advise !

Sorry, I forgot.  I would try an orthopedic doctor first.  I doubt it's a heart problem.  One other thing--do you have high blood pressure or anything like that?  If not, don't worry about your heart.  Go to the orthopedic guy and insist on an answer.  Sometimes when you're young, they try to say it's a pulled muscle or whatever.  They did that to my son (21) and finally I had to go with him and insist on an MRI on his shoulder.  They found a torn ligament.

I think you should get an MRI on your cervical spine and maybe upper back.  It sounds like you might have a pinched nerve or maybe a herniated disk or something.  I get similar pain and I have 2 herniated disks in my neck.  I also get the back/chest pain and shoulder pain.  I think all that is connected.
