Hi Dr. Pillay,
I had a c5-6 fusion (with donor bone/plate/screws) in June of 2008 following a fall in Jan 2007. Prior to the surgery I had intense PT/chiro/3 spinal injections (facet, epidural and selective nerve root) all of which failed to relieve the pain with the exception of myofacial release/massage so I opted for the fusion.
I felt great post op - no pain, no HA's tho numbness in rt. hand and tricep area remained but I was finally able to sleep which I hadn't been able to do for 18 mos.
I began more intecse PT in Sept and have had nearly the same sxs. as preop - migraines daily, pain in post. neck and radiates to rt. trapezius and less into left trap. Both are very firm to the touch and respond somewhat to massage and the myaf. release but that's not something I can do everyday.
I'm not able to take pain meds, sleep aides etc... d/t allergies and SE's. I control the sxs as best I can with tylenol, heat, cold, positioning, yoga.
I'm a 48 yo fe, RN, don't smoke, weigh 110#'s, eat primarily vegitarian diet, have a hx of osteopenia (take fosamax x 5 years). am otherwise very healthy and active. I walk 2-4 miles/day and get some endorphin-like relief from that.
I have an appt. with a neurologist soon - any thoughts on what's causing this or ?'s I should be prepared to ask him?
Thank you so much for providing this forum:)
