posterior wedging c7

I am a 33 year old female.  I have been seeing my doctor for chronic headaches and tingling/numbness in both arms and fingers.  Xray showed arthritis so he ordered a cervical MRI.  My dr stated that I need to see a neurosurgeon because he thinks I need a cervical fusion.  I am awaiting their call for insurance authorization.  Finding of results were:

Lordotic reversal is mild from c3 through c6; chronic posterior wedging is 20% at disc T7; disc degeneration is mild to moderate at c5-6 with narrowing, endplate irregularity,  and reactive marrow change.  C5-6 mild bilateral foraminal stenosis.  

My doctor said the reading is a typo and the wedging fracture is actually C7 not T7 as I only had a cervical study done.  I have been able to research most of what the results are but I have a few questions.  All the research I can find on talks about anterior wedging, nothing about posterior wedging.  Is their a difference?  Should my doctor have put me in a brace while waitng on neurosurgeon?  One other question, sounds like most people with compression fractures have had an injury to cause it but I can not think of anything to have caused this.  Was in car accident 8 yrs ago and suffered a concussion but no neck pain at all.  Maybe then???
