sever spinal pain

i was in a mva 8 days ago. i have a grinding severe pain in by lower back along spine and right of spine. my doc said its probably joint inflammation and i start physical therapy tomorrow. i do not think ican make it. i have a strong limp because normal weight is soooo painful. should i request an mri and see an orthopedic doc? please reply thanx

  What type of MVA?  A fender bender vs a T-bone or being rear-ended?  Anyone in an mva should have xrays where their is a suspected injury.  If you were complaining of back pain at the time of the injury, was an xray done?  If so what were the results?  If they were negative, then it just may be ligament/muscle injury.  Some times that type of injury is worse than a fracture.  You know a horrible sprain is more painful than a break sometimes.  It all depends on the xray.  If your pain continues to worsen, ( you do have pain meds right?) then further testing , ie:MRI would be required.  But with the little bit of information you gave, it's hard to tell you what's really happening.

Ask for MRI and CAT both. They did the same thing with me one hospital didn't even see my neck fracture and never put me in a neck brace. I had the same pain on spine and along spine have it checked. Mine was the C6. I ended up with nerve damage.
