spina bifida occulta

I am a 41yr old male who in 1986 after a fall in boot camp was diagnosed with spina bifida occulta but was never told of this problem by the military. I have always had severe pain in my feet from a very young age and numbness in both legs especialy on the outsides of them. I am currently taking naproxen 500mg 2x dly and vicodin 2x daily but continually wake in the middle of the night with pain so bad i could cry.
I have an appoinmernt with a neurologists sept 1st but not sure what to ask him but do know it would not break my heart to get him to cut the nerves from mid stomach down even though this would be paralyzing. Can anyone help

Did the military do an MRI or Xray of ur back?...if not they were not aware u had spinal issue. Spina bifida is an opening which is dected at birth, spina bifida  occulta is hidden....

I can only suggest u get more MRI's and check for chiari malformation, tethered cord...ect....all are related.

A NL, like the one u will be seeing in Sept dx and then send u off to a NS for treatment.....
