Problem after surgery

Hi, I have been having problems since my fusion and decompression surgery. About 5 or 6 months after I had surgery at L4-S1, for grade 5 spondylolisthesis, I developed incontinence. I had a urodynamic study that showed I had stress incontinence. They also concluded that my bladder is not working correctly when I void. The urologist is sending me back to my neurosurgeon because he thinks I am having problems with my nerves, but I am still a bit confused. How can someone develop stress incontinence after having this surgery? If so, what type of treatment options are available if this is a nerve issue?
Thanks for any help
