Allergic reaction to facial wax

Allergic reaction to facial wax

Four days ago at a girls weekend a friend waxed my eyebrows which I have had done before, and the next morning my eyelids where swollen almost completly shut. After taking some benadryl it seemed to get better. However the following morning my eyes were swollen again and my face red and ichy. I do have sensative skin and sometimes breakout with a rash on my arms from some deoderants but this has never happened before. The swelling has gone down a little but I'm worried that it is not completly gone now that is has been three days. Any advise?

ouch, i am sorry you are having this experience - try putting frozen peas in a ziploc bag and apply to affected area for 10-minute intervals.  anything cooling in nature will help - you can apply aloe - but make sure to avoid getting into eyes.

in the future, make sure you are okay with a particular wax by doing a test patch in an inconspicious place beforehand, and wait 24 - 48 hours to determine an allergic reaction.

there are many types of facial waxes - i assume there was a particular ingredient that triggered your reaction - maybe your friend will show you the label and you can see what ingredients to be cautious of in the future - even if just by the process of elimination.

hard wax seems to be better for those who have sensitive skin - if that wasn't what was already used, see if you can have your service done with this type of wax next time..

hope you feel back to normal, soon!

It sounds like you might be sensitive to the wax.  Did you apply baby powder before waxing, if not, try next time.  It should be fine.  In the meantime apply Polysporin to heal
